The Shukokai Karate Group takes pride in its rich history. The style of karate practised traces its roots to Sensei Chojiro Tani, who sought to perfect his techniques by studying the mechanics of the human body. Sensei Tani's dedication to etiquette, discipline, mental control, and technical improvement shaped the philosophy and approach of Shukokai Karate.
In 1948, Sensei Tani opened his own dojo and proudly hung a carved wooden sign above the entrance that read “Shukokai. ” The style continued to evolve under his leadership until his retirement, during which he appointed Shigeru Kimura as his successor. Kimura Sensei, a former world champion and All-Japan champion, continued to develop and advance the art of Shukokai Karate.
In 2018, Shukokai Karate Group Beccles joined Kazoku Kai International, expanding its membership to multiple countries worldwide. This association provides access to a wide range of knowledge and opportunities to attend courses and events alongside fellow martial artists.
Sensei Kantu Patel, a 5th Dan black belt, leads the training at Shukokai Karate Group Beccles. He began his martial arts journey in 1972, starting with Judo and then Taekwondo under the guidance of Sensei Jim McCullough. Through his years of experience and dedication, Sensei Kantu Patel brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the club.
