Promotion of Indian classical sacred art forms and values. The Sohamasmi Centre for Performing Arts believes that art serves as a vehicle for personal growth and artistic excellence, fostering a sense of confidence and self-awareness.
At the heart of their artistic endeavour is Odissi dance training, which follows the esteemed pedagogical lineage of the Late Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra. As the leading institution of Odissi in Australia, the Centre offers training and classes to students of various ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, creating a diverse and inclusive community.
In addition to being a renowned dance school, the Sohamasmi Centre for Performing Arts is also a professional Odissi dance group and soloist. Their performances showcase the enchanting world of Odissi dance, captivating audiences with their mesmerising double bill performances.
The Centre is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious 'Sustaining Creative Workers' grant by Regional Arts Victoria and Creative Victoria in 2022. This grant aims to support the development of an Odissi music ensemble, the first of its kind in Australia, featuring Victorian artists trained by musicians from Odisha, India.
To celebrate their 20 years of excellence, the Sohamasmi Centre for Performing Arts invites everyone to their upcoming event, 'Odissi Nrityagatha'. This event promises to be a journey through the captivating world of Odissi dance, led by Smt. Monica Singh Sangwan and accompanied by a live music ensemble.

The Sohamasmi Centre for Performing Arts owes its existence to the vision and inspiration of Monica Singh Sangwan. Originally founded in 2003 as an informal space of learning and exchange in Gurgaon, Haryana, India, the Centre soon expanded to have two branches.
In 2010, Monica immigrated to Australia under the Distinguished Talent visa and settled in Gisborne, Victoria. It was in Gisborne that the Centre was formally incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act (1981) of Victoria. Being a non-profit organisation, the Centre is dedicated to fostering and preserving Indian classical sacred art forms and values in Australia.
With a rich history and a passionate team, the Sohamasmi Centre for Performing Arts continues to make a significant contribution to the cultural landscape of Australia.
