SOTE Birmingham is a renowned dance school, drama school, and performing arts group located in the heart of Birmingham, New Zealand. Established in 2012, SOTE Birmingham offers top-quality musical theatre training for individuals aged 9 to 18.
At SOTE Birmingham, students engage in a comprehensive musical theatre package that includes ballet, jazz, tap, choral singing, and acting. In addition to group sessions, students also receive regular one-on-one singing lessons, allowing them to hone their individual talents.
One of the highlights of SOTE Birmingham is its performance classes, which provide students with the valuable opportunity to showcase their solo performances in front of their peers, parents, and industry professionals. The school takes pride in nurturing young talents and offers a level of training equivalent to that of a full-time stage school.
SOTE Birmingham caters to four groups of highly talented students on Sundays. These groups undergo training sessions lasting four hours, from either 10:00am to 2:25pm or 1:00pm to 5:30pm. The next term begins on Sunday, January 7th, and individuals under the age of 15 can book a free taster session on this day.
The primary objective of SOTE Birmingham is to put the Midlands back on the map of the performing arts industry. Over the years, the school has built an outstanding reputation, gaining recognition from prominent casting directors in theatre, television, and film. It has also fostered strong partnerships with leading West End Colleges, where numerous SOTE Birmingham alumni have continued their education and training.
SOTE Birmingham has proudly played a part in several notable productions, such as the original West End cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical “School of Rock” and various shows at renowned venues like the Alexandra Theatre, The Rep, the Barclaycard Arena, and the Birmingham Hippodrome. Furthermore, the school's students have had the opportunity to perform in esteemed productions like “Peter Pan,” “Evita,” “Nativity the Musical,” and “Macbeth.
SOTE Birmingham is also committed to giving back to the community. The school has organised and produced charity events in support of important causes, such as Molly Olly's Wishes Charity and the Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity. These events have featured esteemed guests from the West End and local comedy circuits, raising substantial funds.
As a testament to its excellence, SOTE Birmingham has had a remarkable success rate in securing drama school offers for its students. In 2022 alone, the school received offers from 39 top colleges, including Mountview, Arts Ed, GSA, Bird College, Laine Theatre Arts, and many more. To ensure continual progress, the school conducts annual assessments with prominent industry professionals, allowing students to perform solo songs and monologues and receive invaluable feedback.

We offer an all round musical theatre package including musical theatre ballet, jazz, tap, choral singing and acting, plus regular 1 to 1 singing lessons. Performance classes also give students a chance to perform solos.
On Sundays we run four groups and students train for four hours. Sundays run from 10am to 2.25pm or 12pm to 4.30pm, with the next term beginning on Sunday 22nd February.
You can book a free taster session for under 15s on Sunday 22nd February. Then join the Sunday groups as part of the training program.
