Island Bay United AFC is thrilled to announce that they will be hosting the South Coast Girls Academy, a program specifically designed for girls who are passionate about football and are eager to dedicate more of their time to the sport. With an all-female coaching staff, the academy offers a unique girls-only environment.
The South Coast Girls Academy consists of two elements: a talent development program for players aged 13-15, and a girls-only skilled session for those aged 8-12. The talent development program is aimed at girls in the U14 Girls Only age group who are willing to commit to playing football at least three times a week. To participate, players must attend pre-season training in term 1, with a minimum requirement of two trainings per week. The program values commitment, attitude, respect, and energy (CARE) as its key requirements. No trial is necessary to join the program, ensuring that all enthusiastic girls have a chance to participate. Throughout the football season, Academy training takes place twice a week. In addition, girls in the program are encouraged to get involved in girls-only football with their home club and/or college football if they are of secondary school age. This serves as a great opportunity to share their passion and skills with a wider range of girls. The academy also forms teams and enters them in mixed or girls-only leagues, ensuring that the participants face the appropriate level of challenge.
For girls aged 8-12, the girls-only skills sessions are held every Friday afternoon at Wakefield Park. Regardless of their abilities, all female players are welcome to join these sessions and register. The primary goal of these sessions is to have fun while developing new football skills. Coaches will focus on various aspects such as running with the ball, receiving and turning, shooting, and decision-making in small-sided games. To provide a balanced experience, girls may be grouped according to their age and ability, creating an environment that offers both challenge and support.
