Sarah, the organiser at South Avon Canoe Club, wants to share a few important details with the sports community.
Safety first! All members need to stick to British Canoeing policies, follow the Code of Conduct, and know the safety guidelines while joining in club activities.
Annual membership fees help keep the club running smoothly, covering equipment maintenance, insurance, and other costs. Full members can join all club trips and events like training camps, surf weekends, and intro to white water sessions.
South Avon Canoe Club welcomes everyone – individuals, families, and accompanied kids of all ages and abilities. Whether you're just starting out or already a pro, Sarah has arranged something for you. Club sessions with qualified coaches and leaders are available to guide paddlers at every level.
In the summer, you'll find the club meeting every Tuesday night at various spots in North Somerset. The club trailer will be there, so you can hire gear for a small fee. Just bring along clothes and shoes that can get wet. There will be coaches to help if you're new.
During winter, the club runs regular pool sessions. All the necessary gear is provided; you only need your swimsuit and rash vest. No need to book – just turn up and dive in.
Sarah also encourages newcomers to try out the club’s taster sessions. The first four are free, no membership required. It's a great way to see what the club’s all about before deciding to join as a full member.
For those new to kayaking, the club offers coached sessions throughout the year. These include training camp weekends at Biblins youth campsite during the summer. Plus, beginners can get training and be assessed during the Tuesday night sessions.
The South Avon Canoe Club, founded on 11th October 1987, has been providing over 30 years of fun and adventure to paddlers in the Bristol and North Somerset areas. The club enjoys recreational paddling on placid water, white water, and the sea.
For more details, head over to the club's Facebook page or drop them an email. The club’s website also lists the programme and upcoming events.
