Has a proud rugby history, with the Southbridge Rugby Football Club officially established in 1876. Since then, the club has been a pillar of the community, fostering a love for the sport and producing talented players who have gone on to represent at various levels.
Located in Southbridge, a small rural service town approximately 30 minutes from Christchurch, the club boasts a population of 900. Despite its size, Southbridge has made a significant impact in rugby circles, with players from the club going on to represent Ellesmere, Canterbury Country, Canterbury, Crusaders, and even the All Blacks.

Our home ground is the Southbridge Domain, located on St James Street. We are fortunate to have modern and well-maintained facilities, including two full-sized fields and one junior-sized field. The clubrooms, a two-story building, feature a licenced bar, kitchen facilities, and a collection of rugby memorabilia that showcases the rich history of the club. Additionally, we have four changing rooms with gas-heated showers, a referees' room, and search and rescue rooms.
The Southbridge Rugby Football Club takes pride in its community involvement and fundraising efforts. We recently organised a battery scrap metal fundraiser as part of our efforts to raise funds for an upcoming tour to England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland in September 2023. These initiatives not only contribute to the success of the club but also strengthen the community spirit that Southbridge is known for.
