Welcome to South Windermere Sailing Club, a family-friendly sailing club located on the shore of Windermere in New Zealand. Established in 1961, our club has recently relocated to YMCA North Camp on the west shore of Windermere, offering a stunning setting for our sailing activities.
At South Windermere Sailing Club, our main goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive club environment that encourages both adults and juniors to have fun on the water. We provide a range of sailing opportunities, including competitive racing in various formats, informal training sessions, and social sailing events. Our Saturday mornings are dedicated to safety-covered sailing, providing a safe environment for sailors of all skill levels to enjoy the water.
In partnership with YMCA Lakeside, our club is able to organise sailing and powerboat training courses that are accredited by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). This allows our members to further develop their sailing skills and gain valuable qualifications.
In addition to our sailing programme, South Windermere Sailing Club hosts a variety of social events, creating a welcoming and vibrant community for our members. These events take place in our outstanding setting on South Windermere, offering breathtaking views and a truly memorable experience.
We are proud to announce that the area leased and used by South Windermere Sailing Club has been designated as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) by the Westmorland & Furness Council. This designation underscores the importance of maintaining our club's community value and access to the Windermere lakefront for community purposes.
Each year, we celebrate the achievements of our members at our annual dinner and prizegiving. Awards are presented for success in races, improvement in sailing, and commitment and support to the club. It is a great opportunity to recognise the hard work and dedication of our members.
The South Windermere Sailing Club also holds various events throughout the year, including the popular “Messing About in Boats” week. This event allows sailors of all ages to participate in daily outings and coaching, improving their sailing skills while having a fantastic time on the water.
