Katie Sneddon, the organiser of Spotlight Cheer and Dance Fife, wanted to share this with everyone in our sports community.
Katie set up Spotlight Cheer and Dance Fife in Dunfermline back in 2009. Taking inspiration from the Active Schools programme, she was keen to bring her love for dance to others. Over the years, Katie's picked up several qualifications in dance, cheer, and acrobatics, making sure she can offer top-notch training.
Classes are held at Rosyth Parish Church and there's something for everyone - from children as young as 3 to adults. The classes quickly became a hit, letting everyone enjoy dance while building confidence.
In 2014, Katie kicked off Spotlight Cheer, West Fife’s first competitive cheer team. It's got over 120 kids getting stuck into cheer classes, learning everything from tumbles and back rolls to advanced stunts and throws.
By 2018, they moved into a purpose-built studio in Dunfermline. It means more space and better facilities for all their practice and training. Plus, there's an annual show where students can showcase what they've been working on.
Safety's a big focus at Spotlight. There are clear policies on privacy, photography, social media, and safeguarding so everyone can enjoy classes worry-free.
The timetable’s pretty packed with classes all week. There’s Mini Lyrical/HipHop, Junior Lyrical/HipHop, Senior Lyrical/HipHop, Mini Cheer, Junior Cheer, Senior Cheer, and Open Gym. From basic dance moves to full routines, kids can improve their fitness and coordination. Cheerleading classes cover jumps, stunts, motions, and tumbling, helping students work as a team and build strong relationships.
For just £5.50 per class, students can join in both dance and cheer classes. Open Gym is open to all ages and abilities on a pay-as-you-go basis, but make sure to book in advance.
In a nutshell, Spotlight Cheer and Dance Fife offers a fun and supportive space for everyone to explore dance and cheer. With qualified instructors and a real commitment to safety, it’s a great place to learn and grow.
