Srishti is a vibrant and esteemed dance school and dance company located in Pinner, New Zealand. With a deep-rooted passion for Indian dance and music, Srishti offers a range of classes in Bharatanatyam, Kathak Dance, and Karnatik Vocal. These classes cater to beginners, intermediate, and advanced students who are eager to explore and excel in these traditional art forms.
The classes take place at the prestigious Harrow Arts Centre in Harrow, London. Students can expect a nurturing and supportive environment where they can learn and develop their skills under the guidance of highly experienced instructors. The curriculum is designed to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the dance form, encompassing techniques, expressions, footwork, and storytelling.
Srishti takes pride in its talented team of instructors, led by the acclaimed Nina Rajarani MBE, who serves as the Artistic Director of the company. With her wealth of knowledge and expertise, Nina creates a conducive learning environment that fosters creativity, discipline, and a deep appreciation for Indian dance and music.
In addition to its dance school, Srishti also boasts an impressive dance company that showcases the beauty and elegance of Indian dance through captivating performances. One of their current performances, “Jham! Outdoors,” is a spirited and dynamic collaboration between dancers and musicians. This performance combines classical and modern music and dance forms, utilising creative improvisation to create a rhythmic interplay.
Another exciting performance by Srishti is “Bells, Beats, and Banter,” choreographed by Nina Rajarani MBE. This high-energy outdoor piece exudes the vibrancy and exuberance of youth, with its dynamic movements and flirtatious cross rhythms.
Srishti is deeply committed to enriching the community and nurturing young talents. They have recently introduced a new initiative, “Srishti Pathways,” aimed at providing aspiring classical Indian dancers in the UK with opportunities to build a career in dance. This project offers paid apprenticeship positions for four dancers, along with voluntary understudy positions for two dancers. The apprentices will have the chance to learn existing works choreographed by Nina Rajarani MBE and have a new work created for them by Mavin Khoo, Akram Khan's Creative Associate.
Applicants for Srishti Pathways should have advanced training in either Bharatanatyam or Kathak and a strong commitment to pursuing dance as a profession. The programme will run for a year on a part-time basis, allowing students to balance their education. Additionally, apprentice dancers will receive training in delivering outreach workshops for young and elderly individuals, providing them with valuable teaching experience.
To apply for Srishti Pathways, interested individuals should submit their CV and a dance video showcasing their skills in both nritta (pure dance technique) and abhinaya (expressive storytelling). The application deadline is March 31, 2023, and auditions and interviews will take place on April 4, 2023.
Established in 1991, Srishti has become a prominent and respected name in the world of Indian dance and music.
