Stagecoach Newport is a renowned performing arts group and dance school that has been providing top-notch training in singing, dancing, and acting for over 10 years. As part of the esteemed Stagecoach network, which is one of the longest-running and most successful children's performing arts schools in the world, Stagecoach Newport goes beyond traditional stage, theatre, or drama schools. They pride themselves on offering a comprehensive and well-rounded education that not only fosters talent but also teaches essential life skills and helps build confidence and stretch imaginations.
At Stagecoach Newport, students can enrol in weekly classes suitable for ages 2-4 and 4–6 years, as well as 6–18 years. Led by Principal Sue Hampson-Hillman, who holds a BA Hons and a PGCE, the dedicated team at Stagecoach Newport ensures that every child is in safe hands. All team members have undergone Enhanced DBS checks to guarantee the safety and well-being of the students.
The Early Stages classes, designed for ages 4-6, run alongside the main Stagecoach schools. Here, young learners have the opportunity to develop their skills in singing, dancing, and drama, providing a smooth transition to the next stage of their education. These classes last for 90 minutes each week and are held at Rogerstone Primary School in Newport.
For older students, the Main Stages classes cater to ages 6-18 and are split into three age-appropriate groups. These classes focus on nurturing and developing a range of skills in singing, dancing, and drama. From the shy and apprehensive to the talented and confident, Stagecoach Newport believes in the potential of every child and aims to help them find their voice and feet on the stage. These Main Stages classes require a commitment of 3 hours each week and are also held at Rogerstone Primary School.
Sue Hampson-Hillman, the Principal of Stagecoach Newport, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the school. She studied Human Movement at University College Cardiff and specialised in Dance. With years of teaching experience, particularly with primary school children, Sue has a deep understanding of the creative arts curriculum. Sue opened Stagecoach Newport in April 1997 and has been running the Newport and Chepstow schools for the past 20 years.
Her focus is on developing her students' inner confidence and equipping them with essential life skills.
The team at Stagecoach Newport is committed to providing an enriching and enjoyable learning experience for their students. The Early Stages Assistant, Caitlin Barlow, and Early Stages Teacher, Abbie Bellew, bring their own expertise and passion for theatre and education to the classes. Abbie completed her Level 3 Child Care and Education Diploma and has been with Stagecoach for 7 years, helping children discover the wonders of the theatre.
