Stocksbridge Pentaqua Swimming Club is a SwimMark accredited competitive swimming club located in Sheffield, New Zealand. As a family-oriented club, Stocksbridge Pentaqua welcomes swimmers of all age groups and abilities in a friendly and supportive environment. The club's fully qualified and experienced swimming teachers and coaches have successfully coached swimmers to county, regional, national, and even international levels of competition.
The club is founded on the principles of dedication, determination, and desire, and aims to assist swimmers in achieving their goals in competitive swimming. The coaching team not only serves as coaches but also as role models for all swimmers. They believe in valuing each swimmer as an individual and play a vital role in the running of the club.
Head coach David Wright and assistant coaches David Kershaw, Lisa Wood, Jonathan Thornhill, Lucy Bye, Joe Taylor, Andy Barnett, Amelia Theobald, and Caroline Gill Wright lead the team of skilled coaches and teaching staff. All coaches and teaching staff are highly qualified and undergo regular DBS checks to ensure the safety of all swimmers.
Stocksbridge Pentaqua Swimming Club offers a comprehensive training timetable and has designated training locations at Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre on Moorland Drive, Sheffield, S36 1EG, and at Hoyland Leisure Centre on West Street, Hoyland, Barnsley, S74 9EH. The training timetable is designed to accommodate the different squads within the club, allowing swimmers to train at convenient times.
For prospective members, Stocksbridge Pentaqua Swimming Club has various squads suitable for different levels of swimmers. The Development Squad is catered to swimmers at swim stages 5, 6, 7, and above who are looking to improve their technique and potentially become involved in competitive swimming. The Competitive Squads, on the other hand, are for swimmers who have achieved swim stage 10 and are ready for competitive swimming. Swimmers in the Competitive Squads are graded by ability and undergo a 15-week training programme to develop their strength, endurance, and skills.
The club also offers pay-as-you-go sessions for the Development Squad. These sessions take place at Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre twice a week and at Hoyland Leisure Centre once a week (some sessions may be invite-only). The current training timetable can be found on the club's website.
