Storm Athletics

Storm Athletics is an athletic club and dance school located in the town of Gosport, New Zealand. It was established in 2014 by Head Coach and programme director Sarah Carlin. Sarah, who had extensive knowledge and experience in the sport of cheerleading, decided to start an after-school club while completing her teacher training at a local school.

The club quickly gained popularity and grew to a point where it needed its own premises to accommodate its expansion and development. In 2018, Storm Athletics secured a gym facility and equipped it with a full sprung floor and a wide range of equipment to support the athletes' progress. Today, the club occupies a larger unit spanning over 700 square metres, which includes two sprung floors, a recreational floor, and an additional floor.

With a focus on providing a safe and fun environment, Storm Athletics currently trains and supports over 350 athletes. The club is committed to community engagement and has worked with various charities and outreach programmes. In 2020, Storm Athletics won a paid bid to compete at The Summit in Orlando, Florida, representing the UK in the championship event. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were unable to attend.

However, in 2022, Storm Athletics participated in The Summit for the first time and achieved an impressive 4th place in the world.

Looking ahead, the club is planning to take two teams to The Summit in 2023 and three teams to the Allstar World Championships. This showcases their dedication to excellence and their ambition to compete at the highest level.

In addition to their competitive programmes, Storm Athletics offers a range of classes and training sessions in cheerleading, dance, tumbling, acrobatics, playing, and celebrating. They aim to provide a comprehensive and well-rounded athletic experience for their members.
