Stourport Spartans Basketball club

Stourport Spartans Basketball Club, located in Stourport-on-Severn, is a thriving club with a passion for the sport. Established in May 2017, the club has grown rapidly and currently boasts over 250 playing members. For the upcoming 2023/2024 season, they will be competing in 11 leagues across various age groups.

In terms of junior teams, the club has U9 and U11 teams participating in the Wyre Forest Central Venue League (CVL), as well as U13 and U15 teams for both boys and girls in the YBL League. Additionally, there is a ladies team competing in the WMBL National League and U12, U16, and U18 teams playing in the same league. Moreover, the club has an adult men's team that competes in the National League (Division 3) and West Midlands League (Divisions 2).

Stourport Spartans Basketball Club was formed following the amalgamation of two well-established local teams Wyre Forest Flames and Droitwich Spartans. Wyre Forest Flames, founded in 2001, has consistently played at the Kidderminster youth house. Over the years, their men's team has competed in various divisions of the West Midlands League and has achieved remarkable milestones, including winning the Rosebowl Cup and multiple division championships.

On the other hand, Droitwich Spartans, formed in 2015, started as a men's basketball club and quickly made a name for themselves. In their second season, they triumphed in Division 4 and also secured victory in the Cup (Rosebowl). Their games and training sessions were held at Droitwich High School.

Stourport Spartans Basketball Club prides itself on its inclusive approach and aims to provide a safe and friendly environment for individuals of all abilities, genders, ages, races, and religions. They offer weekly training sessions for all age groups, led by a Basketball England (BE) qualified coach, with fees kept affordable for all members. It's important to note that none of the coaches or volunteers at the club are paid, as they selflessly contribute their time to the development of basketball in the area.

Promoting the holistic growth of their members, the club also focuses on supporting children in developing life and social skills. They aim to create an environment where members can have fun, stay fit, make new friends, and foster a sense of teamwork.

The committee of Stourport Spartans Basketball Club consists of dedicated individuals who are committed to the club's success. Matt Coles serves as the Director of Basketball, Russell Wright as the Chair, Barry Mason as the Vice Chair, Sally Woodward as the Treasurer, and Matt Coles also holds the position of Secretary. The committee is further supported by various members who contribute to different aspects such as website maintenance and welfare.
