Welcome to Sudbury ABC Gym, a friendly boxing club based in Sudbury, UK. Founded in 1958 by Colin Pomroy, the gym has been a cornerstone for training and coaching enthusiasts of all ages for more than sixty years. Affiliated with the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE), Sudbury ABC boxers get the chance to compete against over 750 ABAE member clubs across the country, including 55 in the eastern counties.
Sudbury ABC Gym offers training for anyone aged 8 and above, with competitive bouts available for those aged 11 to 40. Under the watchful eyes of dedicated coaches, members learn the important skills, discipline, and fitness needed to thrive both in and out of the ring.
With a current membership of over 70, including 26 carded competitors, Sudbury ABC has seen tremendous success. They've had five boxers reach the finals in ABAE competitions and one even challenging for the British flyweight title in the professional circuit.
Recently, the gym has celebrated numerous achievements. From Jasper Boydell reaching the semi-finals of the Junior ABA's in 2013 to Jack Wiffen making it to the national final in 2018 and earning a spot in the England Talent programme, Sudbury ABC’s boxers constantly make their mark.
In 2019, Ellie Matter became the first National Champion in the Schoolsgirls category, whilst Scott Stannard, who also represented England in the 3 Nations, was the runner-up. Both have joined the England Talent Programme following their outstanding performances.
Sudbury ABC boxers also shine on international stages. At the Monkstown Box Cup in Dublin, they've consistently brought home medals, including multiple golds in 2019. They also secured a gold at the Harringay Box Cup in 2022, and medals at the MTK Box Cup and Sweden’s Golden Girl Box Cup.
