Time in her last LC (long course) event. We expect her to qualify in further events shortly. Amelie Brolly has just arrived at University of Denver, also a top NCAA college where she is on a scholarship for the next four years. Amelie swam a PB in the 100 fly on Dec 3rd and currently ranks 12th in her conference.
She is settling in well and looking forward to the next semester. Keep an eye out for further updates on these and our other swimmers in the USA. 0 0 Tommy Martin Tommy Martin 2023-11-29 2023-11-29 Sharon Semchiy and Amelie Brolly making their mark in the USAWe are delighted to report that the club trophy cabinet has been restocked and looks smartly embellished by a total of seven trophies won by SWSC swimmers. Margaret is adding the latest three from the recent Fast 30 meet.
Margaret Brophy, Barbara Long and Dan Burke are her latest trophy winners in fact, with pending collections for Amelie Brolly, Sharon Semchiy and the relay team of Cathal Tone, Balint Szatmari, Alex Murphy and Michael ODriscoll. The Fast 30 is a test of swimmers at all levels in the shorter distances, testing speed and skill acquisition, attributable to work both in the pool and at technical land training. For instance while there are speed improvements to be gained from refining reaction times and starts, there are similarly large gains from improving underwater Kicks and Turns. Additionally, strength and flexibility also play key performance factors.
Regardless of stroke, every coach and swimmer knows that having a big kick can be the difference between 1st and 5th place. This meet is the first targeted meet of the season, and shows off the hard work and skill our swimmers have acquired through their long hours of training in the pool and land. Next up is Munster SC Champs which is open to swimmers who achieve the strict Munster QTs, and we wish our Munster Team all the best in that arena currently Championships are taking on a similar format, as we adjust meets to the new technology. 0 0 Tommy Martin Tommy Martin 2023-11-21 2023-11-21 SWSC Team performances at the Fast 30 Championship We are an Active Club Each year our club committee set ambitious targets in relation to the number and nature of galas et al.
, that we might run. This is further supported by a commitment by each squad to deliver on event expectations that is, if a swimmer can swim a 100m sprint, they should be capable of perceiving the clock and knowing their splits. Where the team can each see their recent best times, they can begin to see the bigger picture too and track overall progress. The club galas themselves have begun an incredible capacity to showcase amazing swimming from the large number of swimmers involved, with all relays from half-length 50s free to 8 × 100m Free ensuring its not always a foregone conclusion about who will win or even what will come second or third.
The annual Leinster Schools SC meet, like many others, was cancelled due to the pandemic, but there are other equivalent galas in the meantime and our 160 club members benefit by merely having these milestones to occupy their swimming calendar. As for certain events themselves, there is a clear commitment from whoever runs the races, to give accreditability for effort in what is being provided. Individuals swim to their best by focusing all their intent on that particular race its like reading a book with a page that doesnt turn over until the commitment is made. Then the insights turn to how the swim can be improved by the next race, which is not always that easy given one has to recover from the first physical skills may be one thing, but recovery and psychological concentration is another.
And so the club swimmers deserve all the more credit for regular attendance at galas with more stringent demands such as those in the National Series and the Open meets, ensuring a fuller immersion in the competitive life and experiences these events provide. Well done all! 0 0 Tommy Martin Tommy Martin 2023-11-07 2023-11-07 Milestones in the Pool – Toni the 400 free Altogether, the commitments to training and competing this season have resulted in a variety of successes for many of our swimmers at numerous levels in the club, many of whom perhaps stand at the foot of a pyramid that is the heart of SWSC, but important nonetheless, since commitment to Year End programmes is vital too and not just about awarding trophies. So glad to see that so many of you are challenging yourselves and enjoying that challenge, especially in such challenging times.
So we salute you and keep pushing forward toward success and development in your own swimming achievements ! The club committee will continue to promote these events too, and has been pushing to create a wide variety of races that will cater for a differing set of abilities and experiences at the aforementioned club galas. It demands much, and so much has been delivered. So to all of our swimmers on this road to progress move ahead!
