About
Sunshine Coast Indoor Hockey (SCIH) is a subcommittee of the Sunshine Coast Hockey Association (SCHA) that manages and coordinates indoor hockey competitions for men, women, and juniors in Nambour, Queensland.
Indoor hockey is a modified version of field hockey, played on a smaller court with sideboards and a reduced number of players. In indoor hockey, players are not allowed to hit the ball; they can only push it along the ground. This creates a faster, more exciting, and safer playing environment.
SCIH's competitions take place during the field hockey off-season, starting in early October and running through to the end of February with a break for Christmas. The games are held at the Indoor Sports Stadium of the University of the Sunshine Coast in Sippy Downs, Sunshine Coast.
Unlike traditional field hockey, indoor hockey teams are not defined by clubs. Instead, teams are formed by groups of individuals who may come from different outdoor clubs, representative teams, or personal friendships. While it is primarily a social setting, the competition is still competitive, and there are operational rules that must be observed.
Each team is required to have a coordinator or contact person who is responsible for submitting the Team Nomination Form, collecting and paying team fees, and serving as the liaison between the team members and SCIH.
The playing venue at the University of the Sunshine Coast Sports Stadium has specific usage rules that must be followed. These include no smoking or alcohol consumption on the premises, no marking or high heel shoes on the playing surface, and no food or drink allowed inside the sports hall except for water.
SCIH emphasises the importance of member protection and has adopted Hockey Australia's Member Protection Policy. This policy aims to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, including players, officials, parents, and spectators. The policy can be found on the Hockey Australia website for further reference.
For any inquiries or comments, the SCIH can be contacted through email at info@scih. Org. au, phone at 0417 770 455, or visiting their office at 74/84 Currie St, Nambour, Queensland, 4560. They encourage anyone with questions to reach out and promise to respond as soon as possible.
