The Surf Sports Program at Albany Surf Life Saving Club is a fantastic opportunity for youth, seniors, and masters to get involved in a variety of activities. Taking place on Sundays, this program offers a range of events and competitions that cater to all age groups. The main goal of the program is to encourage participation and create a fun and inclusive environment for everyone involved.
The action-packed Sundays start with a Club Swim, where participants can showcase their swimming skills. This is followed by thrilling Board events and/or a Board Relay/Mixed Relay or Ironman event. And let's not forget about the exciting Beach events like Flags, Sprint, or Relay. These events provide a chance for participants to show off their speed and agility on the sand.
For seniors and masters, there is an additional opportunity to participate in an open 'senior' club championship points system. This system rewards consistency and performance throughout the year, making the competition even more exciting.
The Surf Sports Program consists of three main components. First, we have the Water component, which includes the 400m Club Handicap Swim as a standalone event or combined with other formats like Swim/Run/Swim or Board races. This component also features core race formats such as surf race, board race, and youth ironman/Cameron.
Next, there is the Beach component, where standalone beach activities are included in the program. Running is often integrated into the Water component through Run Swim Runs and similar formats. This ensures that participants get a taste of both water and land-based activities.
The Relay/Team component is all about combining water and beach activities in various team formats. This component aims to maximise participation and provide a fun way to end the day's program. Participants will have the opportunity to experience core carnival formats like the Cameron, Taplin, individual discipline relays, and paired format events.
In addition to all these exciting components, the Surf Sports Program occasionally includes All-Discipline Activities. These activities integrate water craft and lifesaving skills, offering a unique challenge for participants. Some of these activities may involve IRB Racing and the Lifesavers Challenge, which require separate training for our bronzed members.
Overall, the Surf Sports Program at Albany Surf Life Saving Club is designed to build on the strength of youth and seniors training in water craft, first aid, and surf sports. It provides opportunities for growth and expansion in our competition portfolio over the next few years. So, come and join us for a thrilling day of surf sports at Albany SLSC!
