Gerry from Swimrite Leisure wanted to personally reach out to our local sports community with a bit of insight into what his swimming school, Swimrite Leisure, brings to the table.

Nestled right here in Halifax, West Yorkshire, Swimrite was set up by Gerry back in 1994. He saw a clear demand for quality swimming lessons and decided to do something about it. At Swimrite, classes stay small—just one instructor to six pupils, or seven with an assistant. This way, every student gets the attention they need. Gerry’s instructors teach from inside the pool, ensuring hands-on guidance that makes learning efficient and effective.

Swimrite isn’t just about small classes. It’s a member of both the ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) and STA (Swimming Teachers Association), and it follows strict industry standards and practises. All instructors are highly trained and have passed their CRB checks. This means families can be assured of a safe and professional learning environment.

But let’s get to the facilities Gerry has dedicated to making this all work. There's Rastrick Pool, a special teaching pool that opened in 2002, offering a warm environment for everyone from babies to advanced swimmers. Then there’s the Ploughcroft pool, which opened in 1997 and is exclusively for Swimrite members. Both pools have classes running through school holidays and most public bank holidays to ensure consistent learning.

Gerry is particularly proud of the many students who have thrived under his programme. Some have gone on to compete locally, and a few have even joined the teaching team at Swimrite. Lessons are positive, with awards given out three times a year to recognise students' achievements. And the best part? There’s no charge for these awards.
