SwimZone - Huia

SwimZone - Huia is a renowned swim club located in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, with over 35 years of experience in providing swimming lessons and stroke development to the Hutt Valley community. They also serve the Upper Hutt areas, offering classes for swimmers of all levels, from those who have just completed learn-to-swim programmes to competitive and national level swimmers.

In collaboration with the local swimming club, Swimzone Racing Swim Club (SZR), SwimZone aims to provide a comprehensive service that caters to the development of young swimmers. Their primary goal is to help swimmers learn to swim well, placing a strong emphasis on water confidence and safety. They strive to teach all students the skills in all four swimming strokes, not only for the purpose of fitness but also for fun and enjoyment.

SwimZone firmly believes that swimming is a life skill that every child in New Zealand should learn. With this in mind, SwimZone offers a variety of swimming classes and programmes that focus on correct technique and fitness progression through a proven pathway.

SwimZone's Aquakids lessons are available at two locations: Stokes Valley Pool, situated at the corner of Bowers Street and George Street in Stokes Valley, and Huia Swimming Pool on Huia Street in Lower Hutt. They encourage interested individuals to contact them for a free assessment.

At SwimZone, they have a dedicated team of coaches who are passionate about providing a fun, safe, and challenging environment for children to develop their swimming skills to their fullest potential. Each week, they assist around 400 swimmers in becoming not only safer but also more confident in and around the water. Their coaches focus on correct technique and fitness development as swimmers progress through their classes.

The SwimZone coaches are motivated by their love for working with children, their enjoyment of being part of a team environment, and their understanding of the significance of helping children become the best versions of themselves. They relish the challenge presented by each group of swimmers they work with and strive to go the extra mile in providing swimming lessons to every SwimZone family.

John Ross, co-owner of SwimZone, is a highly experienced coach and holds the NZSCTA accreditation and NZ Level 2 Coaching Licence. Originally from Invercargill, he relocated to Wellington after finishing school to work under the guidance of renowned swim coach Tony Keenan. John's coaching expertise extends to developmental swimming, competition swimming, tri-athletes, open water swimmers, and personal one-on-one training. Currently, he oversees the junior squad's development at both Huia and Stokes Valley pools.

John is fully dedicated to his coaching role, ensuring the growth and success of swimmers from Swimzone Racing, as well as contributing to the wider community by providing innovative and competent learn-to-swim programmes.
