Oxfordshire. Our main dojo is located at St. Mary's Catholic Primary School in Bicester.
Tairyoku Shotokan Karate Club (TSKC) was founded and established on 18th September 1999 by Sensei Lester Wellington. Under his guidance, the club has trained numerous students who have successfully attained their Black Belt and some have even become part of the prestigious JKA England Squad. The Club Instructors are qualified and EKF approved, First Aid trained, and possess DBS enhanced certification, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
We have a total of six regular dojo's throughout Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire where students of all ages, starting from 7 years old, are welcome to train. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced karateka, male or female, and regardless of your previous martial arts background or style, you will find a warm welcome at TSKC.
New members are welcome to join the club at any time, as we operate on a rolling agenda. We encourage new students to try karate by offering their first lesson for free. Before attending your first class, we kindly ask you to fill in our registration form online to save time when you arrive at the dojo. The online registration form can be found on our website.
In addition to regular training sessions, TSKC also offers private lessons for individuals or small groups of up to four people. These lessons can help you catch up on missed lessons or reach your quota before the next grading. Each hourly private lesson counts as three lessons towards your grading and provides an opportunity to improve your techniques and refine your kata. For more information on private lessons, you can contact Sensei Lester Wellington, our Chief Instructor, via email.
We also organise KYU Gradings throughout the year, with dates already booked for 2024. These gradings provide an opportunity for students to showcase their progress and receive recognition for their efforts. Recently, we held a successful grading with several students earning new kyu ranks. Congratulations to all the students who participated and demonstrated their hard work and dedication.
At Tairyoku Shotokan Karate Club, the name itself reflects our philosophy. “Tairyoku” means “with the strength of one's body” in Japanese, and our club embodies this concept through a focus on physical power and mental strength. We strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all members to develop their martial arts skills and personal growth.
