Tani Gill Dance Company and Production House, based in Cambridge, is dedicated to presenting an authentic version of oneself through movement and stillness in time. With origins rooted in the Anapale Theatre under the Acropolis in Greece, Tani Gill is the director and founder of TGDC.
One distinguishing aspect of TGDC is their unique dance philosophy known as the Shyamala method. This method goes beyond dance style and focuses on a holistic approach to movement. The company believes in finding balance amid chaos and aims to create thought-provoking narratives that surpass the boundaries of tradition.
Costume design plays a significant role in TGDC's dance narratives. Their productions follow a naturalistic theme, and they make use of materials that are in line with their philosophy. They collaborate with independent costume designers who specialise in using organic plant dyes. Ethically sourced materials are imported from India and Nepal, and Tani personally ensures that the pieces designed are eco-friendly.
Additionally, TGDC is committed to recycling fabrics and costumes to help sustain the environment.
In line with the evolving landscape of performing arts, TGDC embraces the future by integrating film and technology into their productions. They collaborate with independent filmmakers and animators to combine movement, animation, and film, creating a multifaceted experience for their audiences.
Meet the actors of TGDC who bring their vision to life. Jack Chambers, Olivia J. Night, Conor Pavitt, Blair Heinz, Emer Lenihan, and Hannah Turner Night are skilled and versatile performers who have a deep passion for their craft. Each actor brings a unique background and skill set to their performances, ranging from dance and physical theatre to voice over work and classical text.
Conor Pavitt, an award-winning stage actor from London, is part of TGDC and is constantly seeking new opportunities on both stage and screen. With a lifelong obsession with performing and a background in modelling, Conor has appeared in music videos and commercials. However, theatre and acting have always been his main passion, and he has delivered award-winning performances in various roles.
Jupiter's Ghost is one of TGDC's upcoming productions, where Olivia J. Night will play Jupiter 101, a human replica created in a laboratory in the distant future. Olivia's background in dance and physical theatre makes them a perfect fit for the nuanced movement incorporated into Jupiter's character.
With their commitment to presenting authentic narratives, incorporating innovative design practises, and showcasing talented actors, Tani Gill Dance Company and Production House is a force to be reckoned with in the Cambridge theatre and dance scene.
