Tawa Rugby Club Inc. has been a cornerstone of the Wellington sports scene since 1947. Founded by a dedicated bunch of lads who balanced their weekday grind with weekend rugby, this club’s got history and heart.
Tawa Rugby Club, known for upholding traditions of pride and honour, effortlessly blends heritage with modern sport. With the local community behind them, the legacy of excellence extends beyond the try line.
Originally training on a gravel patch by Tawa Fire Station, the club has come a long way. In bad weather, they borrowed Johnsonville Rugby Club’s gym, sparking friendships that outlasted any rivalry.
Fast forward to today, Tawa’s got state-of-the-art facilities at Lyndhurst Park. From awesome club rooms to a floodlit ground, it’s all top-tier. They even have an all-weather training area – no excuses now!
Tawa’s pedigree includes legends like Graham Mexted and Vince Bevan, who faced the British Isles back in 1950. The club’s roster boasts Wellington reps and All Blacks such as Murray Mexted, Steve McDowell, Dion Waller, Brad Fleming, and Shane Carter.
Catering to all skills and ages, Tawa has strong teams in top leagues, Senior First, Colts, 80/80 grade, and women’s rugby. They also hit the Kapi Mana Netball competition with two solid teams. Player fees are reasonable and the experience? Unmatched camaraderie and heaps of fun.
Carlos, the driving force behind Tawa Rugby Club, invites anyone keen on rugby to join. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the game, Tawa’s inclusive community is ready to welcome you. The club is all about growth and success, both on and off the field. Get involved, be part of something special!
