Tees Valley Kung Fu, located in Stockton-on-Tees, is a martial arts club that specialises in teaching authentic Wing Chun Kung Fu with a modern edge. The club is headed by experienced instructor Alasdair Kirby, who has over 30 years of experience in martial arts, with most of that in Wing Chun.
Alasdair Kirby has a diverse background in martial arts, having trained in Judo for 12 years and earning a 1st dan black belt through competitive grading and the 3-man line-up. He previously set up the Wirral Wing Chun Academy for 12 years, where he trained instructors and then passed on the running of the club to them before moving to Teesside.
At Tees Valley Kung Fu, the emphasis is on a hands-on approach to learning and improving techniques. Alasdair believes in continuously increasing his knowledge and skill in the system. The club encourages students to ask questions and test the techniques they learn under pressure and in sparring. Additionally, grappling and escrima training are offered on an ad-hoc basis within the sessions.
The club prides itself on providing a fun and informal environment, making it suitable for individuals of all fitness levels and experience. Whether you are a beginner or have previous martial arts experience, you are welcome to join and try Wing Chun Kung Fu at Tees Valley Kung Fu.
Beginner classes are open to all adults and are held at Mrs B's Community Hive on Lamb Lane, Ingleby Barwick. Classes take place on Monday evenings from 20:00 to 21:30 and on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:15.
Intermediate classes are open to students who have achieved a 5th Student Grade or are competent in the Chi Sau Fundamentals Programme. These classes are held on Thursday evenings from 18:00 to 19:30 at Si-Fu.
The first lesson at Tees Valley Kung Fu is free, giving prospective students an opportunity to experience the classes before committing. The monthly fee for all training is 25, which offers excellent value for money at an average rate of 2. 77 per session. Single class drop-ins are available in special circumstances, but typically the club operates on a monthly payment basis to cover the costs of the training space.
