About

Blind Cricket New South Wales Inc, based at 1/73 Wentworth Avenue, Wentworthville NSW 2145, is a cricket club that is passionate about promoting and supporting blind cricket activities. They believe that blind people can enjoy the wonderful game of cricket just as much as anyone else.

If you're interested in learning more about blind cricket and getting involved in this unique sport, Blind Cricket New South Wales is the place to be. They have a rich history that dates back to 1922 in Melbourne, Victoria, where two residents at a hostel in Prahran started playing a crude version of blind cricket using rocks in a tin can.

Since then, blind cricket has grown in popularity and spread to various states in Australia, including NSW. Initially played during lunchtime at workshops where vision-impaired individuals worked, blind cricket soon became a competitive sport. In fact, in 1928, the first interstate game between NSW and Victoria took place in Sydney, and the challenge continued with a NSW team travelling to Melbourne later that year.

In recognition of the increasing interest and participation in blind cricket, the Australian Blind Cricket Council was formed in January 1953. The inaugural Australian Blind Cricket Carnival (Championships) was held in Kooyong, Melbourne, marking a significant milestone for the sport.

Over the years, the blind cricket ball has also undergone changes. From cane balls in the mid-1920s to red nylon balls in the 1970s, and eventually the introduction of the black nylon ball in 1974, the evolution of the ball has played a crucial role in improving the game. In Australia, a hard white plastic ball with holes and small metal pieces inside has been used since the 2003/2004 season.

Blind Cricket New South Wales is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for blind cricket enthusiasts. Whether you're an experienced blind cricketer or someone who's curious to try out this unique sport, they invite you to get in touch with them via email for more information.
