Welcome to The Back Paddock Studio, a unique space in Somerville, Australia where Maurice and Simone, a passionate couple, have finally brought their dreams to life. After working in the film industry and raising a family, they have transitioned into the world of furniture making, art, and yoga.
Maurice's workshop is a haven for reclaimed wood enthusiasts. He skilfully transforms timbers into bespoke furniture, each piece carefully crafted with attention to detail. Additionally, Maurice specialises in creating beautiful butcher blocks in the traditional style, predominantly using recycled timbers. The end grain of these blocks is proudly showcased, adding a touch of rustic charm to any kitchen.
Simone, on the other hand, creates art in her studio within The Back Paddock Studio. Printmaking and oil painting are her passions, and she often exhibits her works both in the studio and locally. Her art pieces are available for purchase, and she also accepts commission requests for custom pieces.
In addition to her art, Simone is a certified yoga teacher. She offers classes in a small but warm and inviting studio that overlooks the beautiful back paddock. Her yoga practise incorporates the principles of Hatha Yoga, as well as the specialised Calligraphy Yoga, created by Master Yang. This unique blend combines elements of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and traditional Indian Yoga, creating a holistic and rejuvenating experience for students.
The Back Paddock Studio is more than just a space for creation – it is also a gallery and home to Somerville Butcher Blocks. Here, you can find locally made, high-quality furniture and contemporary art that reflects the passion and skill of the artists.
