The Bar At The Brig is a key feature of this community and sports facility, offering a wide range of refreshments to cater to every taste. They serve premium lagers, ciders, real ale, spirits, wines, cocktails, and a diverse selection of specialised and premium gins and tonics. For convenience, they provide a facility for card payments.
Owned by Altofts Community and Sports Foundation (ACSF) Limited, a registered charity, The Bar At The Brig ensures that a social aspect is at the heart of their enterprise. This reflects the venue's history and heritage of being a social hub for the community and a base for various interests.
The Brig, formerly known as Lee Brigg Working Men's Club, was built in 1911 and has undergone several extensions and changes over the years, resulting in an interesting layout. It provides a variety of facilities to cater to different needs.
The Function Room, with its solid oak floor and stage area, offers a versatile space for dance and fitness groups, accommodating over 100 guests seated at tables or in a theatre-style arrangement. It is fully accessible, with separate male and female toilet facilities, a disabled toilet, and a baby-changing facility. The Function Room is the ideal venue for private parties, concerts, weddings, christenings, conferences, and large meetings. It is equipped with full HD projection facilities, a large screen with sound surround, and access to live Sky and BT Sports HD TV for major sporting events.
The carpeted Lounge area features its own bar and provides direct access to the garden area, making it wheelchair and pushchair-friendly. The lounge has recently undergone refurbishment, with new seating including chairs and tables. It is suitable for smaller functions, training courses, and meetings. Like the Function Room, it is equipped with full HD projection facilities, a large screen with sound surround, and access to live Sky and BT Sports HD TV.
In addition to these facilities, The Brig is also home to community groups such as Altofts Book Swap, Altofts Juniors AFC, Castleford and District Lions, Castleford Water Polo, and Altofts Cycling Club. This community-based enterprise has received the support of Wakefield Council, with ward councillors regularly visiting and having representation on the Board of Trustees.
For those interested in future events and hiring The Brig, their website provides up-to-date details and a calendar to check availability. Altofts Community and Sports Foundation Limited, as a fully registered charity, aims to promote health, social, and community-based opportunities for all residents in the wider Altofts area. The Bar At The Brig invites everyone to enjoy their facilities and partake in the social aspect that it has to offer.
