Clwyd Special Riding Centre (CSRC) is a registered charity located in Llanfynydd, near Wrexham, North Wales. The Centre provides state-of-the-art facilities that support Riding for the Disabled and equine-based activities for individuals of all ages with various disabilities and additional needs.
CSRC is managed by a small team of experienced staff and is overseen by a board of trustees. The Centre is also fortunate to have the support of a large pool of incredible volunteers, as well as a dedicated team of RDA approved horses and ponies.
Established in 1982, CSRC is an approved Riding for the Disabled (RDA) and British Horse Society (BHS) Centre. The Centre offers a wide range of equine-assisted services to cater to the needs of the community.
For individuals aged five and above, CSRC provides riding sessions that focus on physical and educational activities. These sessions help build skills in literacy, numeracy, and communication, with the horse serving as a focal point.
CSRC also offers carriage driving sessions designed specifically for wheelchair users and individuals with limited mobility. Specially adapted carriages make this activity accessible and provide both therapeutic benefits and a unique sporting experience.
Equine-assisted learning and therapy sessions are delivered through horse-focused educational activities. These sessions take place in the CELT building, which is equipped with a fully simulated mechanical horse and a classroom environment. Participants have the opportunity to engage with horses either in the classroom or working alongside them.
The Centre's state-of-the-art fully simulated mechanical horse, equipped with an interactive screen, offers an alternative riding experience. This experience helps participants build core strength, improve balance and posture. The interactive screen provides options to ride along the beach, go cross country, or hone dressage skills.
Hippotherapy, a specialised form of physiotherapy, is also available at CSRC. This therapy utilises the specific movements of a horse to provide rehabilitation for individuals with neurological and complex conditions. It has been proven to improve motor, sensory, and language skills.
CSRC has been welcoming RDA holiday groups from across the UK for over 30 years. They offer residential riding holidays in their purpose-built, fully accessible, 18-bed accommodation. This unique getaway is designed to cater to the needs of people with additional needs. The accommodation is also available for private hire to groups and families looking to explore the stunning Welsh countryside and local attractions.
As a charity, CSRC relies on the generosity and support of its volunteers and donors. Grants and fundraising activities are essential for meeting the financial needs of running a centre of excellence. Every donation, minute of time, and contribution is greatly appreciated and enables CSRC to continue its valuable work.
Those interested in supporting CSRC can choose from various ways to get involved, such as donating funds, participating in fundraising activities, or volunteering. Volunteers play a crucial role in expanding the opportunities and services offered by CSRC to a wider range of participants.
