The Grange Bowling Club

The Grange Bowling Club, formerly known as Smiths Sports, is a friendly and social club situated in Rugby, Warwickshire. Nestled in the serene surroundings of Tennant Close, Off Stanley Road, the club has a rich history that dates back to 1945 when it was initially formed as part of the Lodge Plugs Sports facilities. Over the years, it has evolved into a thriving hub for lawn bowls enthusiasts in the region.

The story behind The Grange Bowls Club is one of determination and resilience. In 1997, the company that owned the sports complex was sold, putting the club's future at risk. However, a group of dedicated bowlers fought tirelessly to keep the club alive. After extensive negotiations with Smiths Industries, they secured a deal that ensured the continuity of the club.

As a result, The Grange Bowls Club was born.

Privately owned by its members, The Grange Bowls Club takes care of its day-to-day running costs. This includes electricity, water rates, bar licencing, building maintenance, and the upkeep of the green. Each year, the club relies on the hard work and dedication of its members to raise funds. Through annual subscriptions, fundraising events, bar takings, and a limited number of sponsorships, the club ensures its sustainability.

It is worth noting that everyone involved in the club, from helpers to officers and bar staff, are volunteers who generously give their time and expertise.

Membership at The Grange Bowling Club is open to all who share a love for the sport. The club offers a range of membership options, catering to juniors, social-only members, and full playing members. To join, prospective members can download and complete the membership application form. It can be emailed to the membership secretary or sent by post to the address indicated on the form.

The club prides itself on its excellent facilities, which cater to bowlers of all levels. Newcomers to the sport can receive coaching to help them get started, while experienced bowlers can further refine their skills. Additionally, The Grange Bowls Club boasts two all-year surface tennis courts, which are actively enjoyed by members of the tennis section. The social club is open every Friday evening throughout the year and most days during the bowling season, which typically runs from April to September.

During the winter months, the club keeps the social spirit alive by organising various social events, including participating in local men's and ladies' skittles leagues.
