The Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival is a beloved tradition in the small town of Nipigon, offering four days of family fun and excitement from August 31st to September 4th, 2023. More than just a fishing derby, the festival is a chance for family, friends, and visitors to come together to enjoy fantastic food, local entertainment, and a variety of fun activities.
As the longest-running festival on the North Shore, the Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival has been a staple in the community for almost six decades. With a range of activities including a slo-pitch tournament, a 5 km run/walk, fishing derbies, a homecoming dance party, food trucks, vendor markets, FUNtastic Inflatables, and a giant penny auction, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Not only is the festival a great time, but it also supports the local community. Proceeds from the event are distributed to organizations such as the Nipigon Legion, Elks Lodge, Northshore Golf Club, and the Nipigon Curling Club. These funds benefit programs like minor hockey, youth curling, cadets, and high school bursaries, making a positive impact on the community.
One of the highlights of the festival is the One Day Salmon Derby (NFFODSD) on Saturday, September 2nd. Directed by Matt Dupuis, the derby format is a per ticket fishing tournament where anglers compete for the heaviest salmon. With rules in place to ensure fair play and competition, participants can enjoy a day of fishing while supporting a great cause.
The Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival is a must-visit event for anyone looking to experience the beauty of Nipigon, enjoy some friendly competition, and support the local community. Join us for a weekend of fun, fishing, and festivities at the Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival.
