The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts Darlington

The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts Darlington is a dedicated performing arts academy located at The Education Village in Darlington. With classes available for kids and young adults, the academy offers training in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre, and Film & Television.

The academy operates on Sunday mornings from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hummersknott Academy. The aim of the academy is to provide high-quality performance industry training while also helping students build confidence, develop life skills, and have fun. The facilities at the academy are superb, including a spacious performance hall that allows students to develop their comedy and drama skills and showcase their talent.

In addition, the academy has an air-conditioned dance studio with sprung floors and mirrored walls for students to learn and perform in musical theatre. There is also a T. V. & film studio equipped with a removable green screen, allowing students to create imaginative and unique sets for their performances.

The academy's team of practitioners deliver fun-filled, creative, high-energy, and action-packed sessions. Students can try their hand at classes in Comedy and Drama, Musical Theatre, and Film & TV. There are also “Poppets” classes available for younger pupils, condensed into a shorter session from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Masterclasses in street dance, theatrical make-up, clowning, and puppetry are also occasionally offered.

In addition to weekly sessions, students have the opportunity to participate in West-end shows and film premiere events in which they will star. They can even work towards gaining RSL qualifications at no extra cost.

The academy is led by Laura Lonsdale, the Principal and Comedy & Drama tutor. Laura is passionate about her role and loves being part of PQA Darlington. The academy also has a team of skilled tutors, including Jordan, a Film & Television Producer and Director, Hannah, who teaches Poppets classes, Georgia, the Musical Theatre tutor, and Chris, the Vice Principal.
