The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA) in Hull is a renowned performing arts school that offers a wide range of classes for children and young adults in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre (singing & dancing), and Film & Television. PQA Hull operates every Saturday from 09:45 – 13:00 and 13:45 17:00, catering to students aged 4–18 years from Hull, Willerby, Kirk Ella, West Ella, Barton upon Humber, Swanland, North Ferriby, Cottingham, Hessle, and other surrounding areas.
As the Principal of the Academy, James Aconley is passionate about providing high-quality, professional, and up-to-date performing arts tuition to students. The goal is to not only nurture their artistic abilities but also help them build confidence, learn life skills, and make new friends. PQA Hull ensures that all of this takes place in a fun, safe, and happy environment.
PQA Hull offers various modules for students to explore and develop their skills. The Musical Theatre classes combine singing, dancing, and acting, providing a comprehensive training experience. Film & Television education is also a significant focus at PQA, making it the largest provider of such education in the UK for under-18s. In addition, the Comedy & Drama lessons teach students theatrical forms and techniques.
The academy also offers added benefits to its students. In the event of national and/or localised lockdowns, bad weather, pandemics, or lack of venue availability, PQA Academies will be run virtually as PQA Live. This ensures that students can continue their training and education even under challenging circumstances. PQA also provides opportunities for students to perform on stage at top West End theatres, giving them a taste of the professional performing arts world.
Furthermore, PQA offers RSL PQA qualifications to inspire and reward students' progress, and masterclasses that aim to enhance their skills and knowledge.
The Hull team at PQA is made up of dedicated and experienced professionals. Adam, the Academy Manager, leads the team in providing a high standard of education and support to the students. Elise and Phoebe are Academy Assistants who are excited to work with the students and assist in their development. The team also includes Natalie and Hannah as Vice Principals, Polly as the Musical Theatre teacher, Killian in charge of Film & TV, and Tiegan as the Poppets teacher.
