Welcome to The Rhythm and Shoes Dance Academy, an award-winning and highly popular dance school located in Richmond, North Yorkshire. As a family-run establishment, we have become a cherished favourite among parents and pupils in the local community.
At our Dance Academy, we offer a diverse range of opportunities for our students to participate in various events throughout the year. These include performances at the stunning Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, pantomimes, exams, local displays, and professional workshops. We believe in providing our students with a well-rounded dance education and strive to expose them to different aspects of the performing arts.
The principal of our academy is Mrs. Hazel Richmond, who herself began her dancing journey at the tender age of three. She received training from the renowned Royal Academy Teacher, Miss Joy Beadell, who was honoured with a special President's Award for her dedication to teaching by the Royal Academy of Dance.
Louise Richmond, another talented member of our team, began dancing at the age of three and has worked her way up to attaining teaching qualifications. She has had the privilege of working with several iconic individuals in the dance industry and often finds herself dancing with various professional companies in London. Louise is also a qualified school teacher and brings her educational knowledge into her lessons, assisting students with GCSE and A-level Dance.
Elliot Allinson, a Musical Theatre performer, is also part of our team. Having trained at the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School and Urdang Academy in London, Elliot has performed in various touring and West End productions, including Matilda, Oliver, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He is passionate about teaching all aspects of theatre and aims to inspire a new generation of performers.
Hannah Richmond, another talented dancer and teacher, has been dancing her entire life and has obtained her teaching qualifications. Her expertise lies in all stage disciplines, particularly Modern Jazz. Hannah is typically found working with our preschoolers and primary-aged children, bringing energy and excitement to her classes.
In addition to dance, we are thrilled to offer Drama studies to our pupils through our collaboration with Richmondshire Youth Theatre. Led by Drama Tutor Sue Hedges, who was the Senior Drama Tutor at the Georgian Theatre Royal until 2016, our drama programme aims to develop the acting skills of our students. Saul Johnson, a volunteer tutor, also supports our drama classes. Many of our past pupils have gone on to pursue acting and theatre at top universities and drama schools, leading to successful careers.
In addition to group classes, we also offer private classes in all the styles we teach, such as Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, Acrobatic Gymnastics, Street, and Contemporary. The duration of the private class is flexible and can be tailored to meet the individual needs and preferences of our students.
