“The Rosie” Fishing Club, located in Deeside, New Zealand, is an angling club established in 1967. Over the years, the club has undergone various changes and is now managed by a group of passionate local anglers who are dedicated to keeping the club's original vision alive. With the help of a committed team of bailiffs, the club has gained recognition locally and nationally as a top grassroots angling destination.
The club offers two main fishing locations: The Rosie Pool in Wepre Park, Connahs Quay, which is open to both members and day ticket holders, and the Old Warren Pool in Old Warren, Broughton, exclusively for members. The Rosie Pool is particularly renowned for its population of pure breed crucian fish, attracting anglers from across the country.
In 2019, the club made significant investments to enhance the angling experience at The Rosie. Thanks to successful funding applications, they were able to replace the old fishing platforms with new, modern and accessible wooden platforms. Manufactured to meet the standards of the British Disabled Angling Association (BDAA), the new platforms are wheelchair-friendly and equipped with kickboards and side rails for added safety. A total of 21 platforms were installed, including five double-width platforms to accommodate anglers accompanied by a friend or family member.
These improvements have not only benefited regular anglers but also allowed the club to organise free fishing events for local Mental Health Groups and their own Start Early Fish For Life events, aimed at children aged 5-15.
Continuing their dedication to improvement, in 2020, the club erected a permanent fence around The Rosie in collaboration with Flintshire County Council. This fence ensures the safety of anglers, the surrounding community, and the diverse wildlife found in and around the pond. Furthermore, in the summer of 2021, the club installed a new path around the entire perimeter of the lake, making every peg/platform accessible to everyone, including wheelchair users. This upgrade provides better and safer access for all anglers.
Additionally, fixed 360-degree, 24/7 CCTV cameras were installed to monitor the area and ensure the safety of club members and visitors. The club also implemented an aeration system to aid in environmental preservation and ensure the safety and well-being of the fish.
The Rosie Fishing Club aims to create a sense of community and accessibility in the sport of angling. Through their ongoing efforts and improvements, they strive to provide an inclusive and safe environment for anglers of all ages and abilities. Whether you're an experienced angler or a beginner looking to learn, The Rosie offers a unique and enjoyable fishing experience in the stunning surroundings of Deeside.
