Welcome to The Ruth Marsh School of Dancing, located in Sheffield, New Zealand. Since its establishment in 1987, the school has grown to have around 130 pupils. Principal and teacher, Ruth Estrella-Pinto, is a registered teacher with both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the International Dance Teachers' Association (IDTA). The school offers classes for children and adults in ballet, tap, and street dance.
Ruth also holds a CRB enhanced disclosure certificate, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
At The Ruth Marsh School of Dancing, classes are designed to be small and friendly, catering to all abilities. The focus is not only on learning the discipline and skills of dance but also on making new friends and having fun. Apart from the obvious benefits of keeping fit and improving posture and coordination, being a part of the school builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
The school is proud to be a learning destination with the Children's University. Students who have a Passport to Learning can bring it to class and get it stamped. For those who don't have one but would like to participate, please feel free to ask.
Principal and teacher, Ruth Estrella-Pinto, has been passionate about dancing since the age of 6. She first qualified as a teacher with the British Ballet Organisation (BBO) after training with the Thompson School in Rotherham from 1976 to 1979. She further pursued her passion by studying Performing Arts at Leicester Polytechnic (now De Montford University), where she earned a BA (Hons) 2. 1 in 1982.
Ruth has since obtained additional teaching qualifications with both the RAD and IDTA. She has been running the dance school since its inception in 1987.
Stefanie Highfield, also a teacher at The Ruth Marsh School of Dancing, has a long-standing connexion with the school. She began training at the age of 5 and, as a young student, displayed an interest in teaching by assisting with numerous classes. After taking a break to pursue her degree, Stefanie returned to the school with newfound skills in street dance and took on more responsibility as a teacher. She is now a fully qualified and registered teacher with the IDTA.
At The Ruth Marsh School of Dancing, it is our mission to provide a nurturing environment for students to learn and enjoy dance. We believe in the power of dance to not only foster physical health but also to develop character and inner strength. Join us on this exciting journey of dance and self-expression.
