Established in 1985 by Sally Prout, the school focuses on providing a high-quality dance education with an emphasis on Classical Ballet. The school believes that strong technique and discipline in ballet form the foundation for all other dance genres.
At The Sally Prout School of Dancing, children are accepted from the age of 3 years. Ballet classes at this age introduce ballet through storytelling and expressive movements using mime. As students progress, they have the opportunity to attend Tap and Jazz classes. Tap lessons help improve rhythm and musicality, while non-syllabus Jazz classes encourage a freer style of dance expression with a focus on fun.
The school offers examinations in Classical Ballet through The Royal Academy of Dance and in Tap through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. These examinations are not compulsory, but they provide students with the opportunity to showcase their skills and receive recognition for their hard work. Pupils may be entered for exams when they have reached the required standard and are willing to attend an extra class per week during the examination term.
In addition to ballet and tap, the school offers classes in modern/jazz dance, allowing students to explore a wider range of dance styles and techniques. All classes are taught by experienced and qualified teachers who are passionate about sharing their love of dance with their students.
