Tighnabruaich Sailing School is thrilled to announce the upcoming local Sailing event, marking the start of its impressive 52nd season of training accomplished sailors. Founded back in 1965 by the enthusiastic Robin Stephens, the school has since become a beloved institution in the sailing community. Robin's passion for sailing led him to purchase five dinghies from his former employer, the Scottish Youth Hostel Association, and thus, the foundation of the school was laid.
Over the course of 34 years, Robin, and his team of young instructors hit the water during the summer months, introducing more and more people to the exhilarating experience of sailing. The sailing school thrived under Robin's guidance, initially working with a mix of traditional wooden dinghies. However, in 1981, a remarkable turn of events took place when Derek, a keen sailor, enrolled in a sailing course at the school. Little did Derek know that this would be the start of an incredible journey. After becoming an accomplished sailor, Derek later joined the school as an instructor, followed by Fiona the next year, marking a new era for Tighnabruaich Sailing School.
Following many prosperous years, Robin decided to retire, entrusting the management of the school to Derek and Fiona. They made the bold decision to relocate the school to Carry Farm, in light of the closure of the hostel in Tighnabruaich, thus accommodating the growing residential market. Although the school has faced its fair share of challenges, it has always remained resilient, thanks to the enduring popularity of outdoor activities and the breathtaking surroundings of Argyll's Secret Coast. To ensure that sailing is accessible to all, Tighnabruaich Sailing School offers a range of course options, including 5-day, weekend, and flexible private tuition.
What sets Tighnabruaich Sailing School apart is its uniqueness as the only privately run coastal dinghy sailing school in Scotland. With a strong focus on delivering high-quality teaching at every level, the school boasts an impressive customer return rate, with approximately 70% of participants coming back year after year. Such loyalty speaks volumes about the school's success. In fact, it's truly remarkable to witness the legacy of Tighnabruaich Sailing School, as grandchildren of the original instructors now eagerly attend and participate in the school's activities.
If you're yearning to partake in the incredible world of sailing and traverse the stunning coast of Argyll, we invite you to join Tighnabruaich Sailing School. Experience the sheer joy of sailing, embrace the beauty of the surroundings, and make memories that will last a lifetime. We can't wait to welcome you aboard!
