You'll find that the shallows of the river are particularly enticing for fishing, and some truly impressive specimen fish have been caught there.
The Test Valley is renowned for its naturally filtered alkaline water and lush waterweed, providing an ideal environment for fish to flourish and grow to impressive sizes. Grayling fishing is exceptional in this area, with the added thrill of catching them on a dry fly even in the winter months. The crystal-clear water allows for exciting sight fishing opportunities, where you can spot and target individual fish.
Coarse fishing for all species of fish, except Game, is permitted on the beats from 1 October onwards. The River Test offers excellent coarse fishing throughout winter. At Timsbury Fishing, you can employ various fly-fishing techniques, such as the “induced take,” Czech nymph fishing, and long trotting, to catch Grayling. The traditional method of long trotting involves using a float and a free-running centre pin reel with a worm or maggot as bait.
During the coarse season, both beats 5 and 6 are combined to provide approximately 2.5 miles of exclusive River Test fishing. The river depths range from 2' to over 15', offering a fantastic range of fishing methods to suit your preferences. Anglers regularly reel in specimen fish like Roach, Pike, Grayling, Chub, Dace, and Perch. Plus, there's always the exciting possibility of catching other species like Barbel, Eel, Gudgeon, Carp, and Bream.
