Timsbury Fishing is a fishing club located in Romsey, New Zealand. Situated on the renowned River Test, the club offers both game and coarse fishing opportunities. With its prime location below Stockbridge and above Romsey, Timsbury Fishing benefits from being right in the heart of the picturesque “golden” stretch of the river.
The fishing experience at Timsbury Fishing is a blend of both the main river and carrier, providing a diverse range of fishing environments. The club takes pride in offering all the necessary facilities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable fishing trip. There are even comfortable chairs available for anglers to relax and take a well-deserved afternoon nap after a productive morning rise.
Timsbury Fishing is predominantly a brown trout fishery, with the only stocked fish carefully selected from the local River Test stock. While primarily focused on brown trout, anglers may also encounter the occasional itinerant rainbow trout. In the latter part of the season, there is a regular presence of salmon rolling in the deep pools, offering the chance of catching a salmon or even a couple of sea trout.
The River Test itself is considered the pre-eminent chalk stream. Stretching for 39 miles from source to estuary, it is the longest known chalk stream. Its historical significance as the birthplace of modern fly-fishing is well-known. The Test has been immortalised in fishing literature by renowned anglers such as Halford, Plunkett Greene, and Skues.
The Test begins its journey in the hamlet of Ashe in north Hampshire, rather than Overton as commonly believed. As it flows southwest, it grows in width and flow when joined by the Bourne, Dever, and Anton Rivers. The river is a complex network of channels, tributaries, carriers, and man-made irrigation channels. At some points, multiple streams run parallel, making it difficult to distinguish the main river from the carriers.
It is only a few miles from the sea that the River Test becomes one single channel.
For those interested in coarse fishing, Timsbury Fishing also offers a unique opportunity to fish the ultimate in English Chalk streams on the River Test. From October 1st to March 14th, anglers can book a day ticket and enjoy approximately 2. 5 miles of prime river and carriers. The river is home to various coarse fish species, including grayling, roach, perch, carp, dace, and pike.
The shallows in the area have even produced some impressive specimen fish.
The English chalkstreams are known for their naturally filtered alkaline water, exceptional water clarity, and lush waterweed. These conditions create a thriving environment for a wide range of fish species, not just brown trout. Grayling fishing, in particular, is excellent in this area. Sight fishing for individual fish is common due to the water's clarity, adding an exciting and challenging element to the fishing experience.
Timsbury Fishing aims to provide anglers with a relaxing and rewarding day on the river. Whether you are an avid fly fisher or a passionate coarse angler, Timsbury Fishing offers an unforgettable fishing experience on the world-famous River Test.
