Instructor, Gursharan Sahota. Mr. Sebley is a dedicated and passionate instructor who believes in the importance of continuous learning and personal growth. His goal is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students can develop their skills and reach their full potential.
The TISKA Aylesbury Shotokan Karate Club offers classes in Aylesbury for all ages and skill levels. They welcome beginners and offer a free trial to help new students get started. The classes are suitable for anyone aged 4 and above, and families are also encouraged to join. The club aims to develop balance, coordination, self-confidence, and discipline in individuals through the practise of Shotokan Karate.
To support beginners, TISKA Aylesbury has developed an app specifically tailored for those new to Shotokan Karate. The app takes beginners through a detailed journey, from the basics to eventually achieving a Black Belt (Shodan) rank. This resource allows students to learn at their own pace and track their progress.
Gursharan Sahota, the Chief Instructor, has an impressive background in karate. He began his journey in Kenya before moving to the UK at the age of 12. Gursharan received his black belt 1st dan (Shodan) four years later and has since achieved an 8th Dan rank. He has competed in numerous kata and kumite events at national and international levels.
Gursharan's most significant career moment was training in Japan under the instruction of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa in 1984. This experience inspired Gursharan to dedicate his life to training and teaching karate.
Gursharan opened his first club in Luton/Dunstable in 1981, which now serves as the association's headquarters. In 1993, he formed TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association), now one of the largest associations in the UK. Gursharan continues to teach over 35 classes per week in the UK and regularly conducts master classes internationally. Through his teaching, he has developed hundreds of students of all ages to black belt standards.
Apart from his karate commitments, Gursharan is involved in charity work. He helps subsidise trips for surgeons to operate on underprivileged children in third-world countries. He has also funded various projects in India and is currently supporting the construction of a new school. Gursharan resides in Buckinghamshire and is happily married with a son and daughter who are already showing interest in following in their father's footsteps.
The TISKA Aylesbury Shotokan Karate Club encourages both children and parents to join and experience the benefits of learning a traditional martial art. In addition to fitness and self-defence skills, the club emphasises self-awareness, confidence, etiquette, respect, and self-discipline. Karate is taught through three aspects: Kihon (basic technique), Kata (forms/patterns), and Kumite (sparring). The club ensures that students are confident in all three areas before progressing to the next belt level through systematic grading syllabuses.
The club's instructor, Mr. Andrew Sebley, holds a 5th Dan rank and has been practising karate since 2001. He obtained his black belt in November 2005 and continues his training under the guidance of Gursharan Sahota. Mr.
Sebley is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where students can grow and develop their skills.
