TISKA Karate Finchley

TISKA Karate Finchley is a renowned karate school located in London, offering classes in Mill Hill, Edgware, Hendon, Finchley, and Hornsey. The club is led by Gursharan Sahota, an experienced and highly skilled instructor with an impressive background in karate.

Gursharan Sahota was born in Kenya, East Africa, and moved to the UK at the age of 12. He began practising karate at the age of 14 in a local club in Bedford and achieved his black belt 1st dan (shodan) at the age of 18. Over the years, he has participated in various kata and kumite events at national and international levels. However, his most significant experience was training in a Japanese dojo under the guidance of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa during a visit to Japan in 1984.

Inspired by his visit to Japan, Gursharan dedicated himself to training and teaching karate as a way of life. In 1981, he opened his first club in Luton/Dunstable, which is now the hombu (HQ) of TISKA. In 1993, he established his own association, The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association (TISKA), which has grown to become one of the largest associations in the UK.

As the chief instructor, Gursharan continues to teach over 35 classes per week in the UK. His passion for karate remains strong, and he regularly conducts master classes internationally. Throughout his career, he has guided hundreds of students of all ages to achieve black belt standard and beyond. Additionally, Gursharan is actively involved in charity work, supporting trips for surgeons to third-world countries to operate on underprivileged children.

He has also funded various projects in India and is currently assisting in the construction of a new school.
