The chief instructor of TISKA Karate Slough is Gursharan Sahota, an accomplished practitioner with a wealth of experience in the field. Born in Kenya, East Africa, Gursharan moved to the UK at the age of 12. He started practising karate at 14 years old and earned his black belt 1st dan (shodan) just four years later. Now holding an impressive 8th Dan, Gursharan has competed in numerous kata and kumite events at both national and international levels.
One of the turning points in Gursharan's career came in 1984 when he had the opportunity to train in a Japanese dojo under the instruction of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa. This experience fueled his passion for karate and inspired him to dedicate his life to training and teaching the art. In 1993, Gursharan formed his own association, TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association), which has grown to be one of the largest associations in the UK.
With over 35 classes taught by Gursharan Sahota each week, TISKA Karate Slough has produced numerous black belt students and beyond. Gursharan's love for karate extends beyond teaching as he is actively involved in charity work. He helps subsidise trips for surgeons to third world countries to perform surgeries on underprivileged children. Gursharan also funds projects in India and is currently supporting the construction of a new school.
