Tommy's Hole is a fishing club located in Winsford, New Zealand. It is owned by the Winsford & District Anglers Association (WDAA) and is one of the club's most recently renovated waters. The pool, which is approximately 0. 7 of an acre in size, was neglected for some time until a restoration plan was implemented in early 2016.
One of the main improvements made to Tommy's Hole was the replacement of the old, rickety bridge over the outlet stream with a sturdy new bridge. Additionally, a small foot bridge was placed across the inlet, allowing visitors to walk all the way around the pool for the first time in many years. The sandbank that had gradually built up and covered about a third of the pool was completely dug out by a contractor in early 2017, and the banks have been landscaped.
Tommy's Hole boasts a diverse population of fish species, with Carp weighing up to about 17lbs and Tench up to about 8lbs present in the pool. Lily beds have been planted to enhance the natural beauty of the pool, although it may take a couple of years for them to become fully established. Some permanent pegs have been installed, and further fish are set to be introduced to the pool.
Visitors to Tommy's Hole are encouraged to keep the pool and its surroundings clean by not leaving any litter behind. Weed growth can be prolific in the summer, so it may be necessary to rake a swim in the shallower areas. However, overall, the pool has seen significant improvements and visitors are often pleasantly surprised by the transformation.
Parking for Tommy's Hole is available on mill lane, opposite mill bank farm. From there, visitors can cross the road and follow the footpath to the right-hand side of the properties to reach the pool.
Tommy's Hole is a proud member of the Winsford & District Anglers Association, which was established in 1908. The association aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive fishing experience for anglers of all ages and skill levels. By purchasing a permit to fish at Tommy's Hole, anglers become part of this longstanding fishing community. To ensure a smooth permit purchasing process, members are required to fill out a registration form with their photo and details.
Failure to do so may result in a delay in receiving the permit.
