TPF-Parkour & Chermond Gymnastics is a dynamic and exciting Parkour spot and Gymnastics club located in Norwich, New Zealand. The club is passionate about challenging individuals and pushing their abilities to overcome any fears they may have, whether it be performing flips or simply believing in themselves.
TPF stands for Tricking, Parkour, and Free-running, which are the three main disciplines offered at the club. Tricking combines elements of martial arts, tumbling, and break dancing, creating a unique and dynamic movement style. Parkour involves moving rapidly through an area, navigating obstacles in the most efficient and fluid manner possible, using techniques such as jumping, climbing, and running. Free-running, on the other hand, places greater emphasis on acrobatic techniques and self-expression within the context of Parkour.
The club was founded in 2016, initially catering to boys who were losing interest in traditional gymnastics and craved a more challenging and thrilling experience. However, TPF-Parkour now welcomes individuals of all genders and ages, providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all. The sessions offer participants the opportunity to learn and develop various skills, such as tricking, parkour, and free-running, while also fostering new friendships and social connexions.
The founder and event leader of TPF-Parkour & Chermond Gymnastics is Chrissie Roe, who has been involved in gymnastics since the age of 6. Chrissie's parents started Chermond Gymnastics Club for her to train when she was 13 years old, and she went on to compete in numerous competitions, achieving remarkable success. After retiring from competitive gymnastics, Chrissie decided to start the boys' artistic side of the club and became a club coach and judge. In June 2015, TPF-Parkour was born, reflecting her passion for teaching the growing sport of Parkour.
Sophie Ann serves as the administrator and girls' gymnastics coach at the club, bringing her expertise and dedication to the team. David Stad, a volunteer helper, shares his own unique style of Parkour since he was 10 years old and hopes to inspire and teach future legends.
Chermond Gymnastics Club, founded in June 1980 by Cherie and Raymond Alcock, offers a safe and constructive alternative for children and young people in Norwich. Originally focusing on girls' artistic gymnastics, the club expanded to include a sports acrobatics section in 1981. In 1984, the club consolidated its operations at Gurney Middle School, Ranworth Road. Chrissie, the daughter of the founders, later set up the boys' artistic gymnastics programme at Gurney Middle School in 1985.
The club faced eviction from the Gurney premises in 2003 and found a new home at Delta Close in 2012.
TPF-Parkour & Chermond Gymnastics is dedicated to providing an exciting and fulfilling experience for all its members. With its focus on pushing personal boundaries, fostering skill development, and building a supportive community, the club invites individuals of all levels and backgrounds to join and discover their potential in the world of Parkour and Gymnastics.
