The Training Cave is a well-established boxing gym located in Batley, West Yorkshire. Affiliated with England Boxing and boasting coaches who are licenced by the British Boxing Board of Control, the Training Cave is dedicated to using boxing as a tool for positive change in the community.
Founded in 2017 by Jack Sunderland, the Training Cave started as a limited company and grew into a social enterprise in 2019 to have a greater impact on the local community. The gym's mission is to help and teach people how to be fit, healthy, and strong for life through the sport of boxing.
The Training Cave has a strong set of values that underpin everything they do. These values were determined through conversations with team members and stakeholders, and they include Courage, Fun, Unity, Excellence, and Leadership.
Courage is fostered within the gym to develop the skills and mindset required to become resilient and strong. Fun is prioritised, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for members to exercise and socialise in. Unity is a key aspect of the Training Cave, as they embrace being a strong community and extended family that welcomes everyone. Excellence is valued, as members are encouraged to strive for personal and athletic achievements within the gym and in competitions.
Leadership is also highly regarded, as the Training Cave aims to help, guide, and support others with honesty and integrity.
The Training Cave is often referred to as “the pack” by its members, emphasising the sense of belonging and community within the gym. The pack consists of competitive fighters, recreational boxers, keep fitters, parents, and supporters who all share the bond of being part of an extended family that cares for one another.
The gym's culture is shaped by these core values, reflecting how the team behaves, the decisions they make, and the energy that drives them. The Training Cave strives to embody these values in every aspect of their work, including their outreach programmes, engagement with the local community, and interactions with newcomers to the gym.
Led by Director Andrew Siddle, the Training Cave is committed to creating a positive impact through boxing. With a range of classes and programmes offered, such as the Rocky Workout, Junior Boxing for 9-13 year olds, Beginners Boxing for ages 14+, and even a female-only boxing class for girls aged 9 and above, the Training Cave ensures that there is something for everyone.
