Tutu Teddies is a unique ballet and creative movement programme based in Kettering, New Zealand. The programme was written and developed by Miss Alex, who is a qualified and experienced primary school teacher, dance specialist, and mother of four. Tutu Teddies is designed for ballerinas aged 6 months to 7 years and is linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
At Tutu Teddies, children are immersed in a captivating and fun-filled world of music, singing, dancing, and learning. The classes are specifically designed to stimulate children's creativity and help them develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. Very young children have wonderful imaginations and a thirst for learning, and Tutu Teddies aims to harness those qualities by getting them up and moving.
All Tutu Teddies classes are taught by Miss Alex, who has extensive experience in dance and education. She started her dance career at the age of three and has trained at several prestigious schools. She also holds a primary teaching qualification and has specialised in dance leadership and performing arts. With her experience and knowledge of how children learn, Miss Alex has created Tutu Teddies, a unique and educational pre-school dance programme.
Tutu Teddies offers a range of exciting activities for students. All dancers receive an annual awards presentation where they are awarded a medal and certificate. There are also opportunities to perform in a dance show and go on whole school trips to watch ballet performances at local theatres. Tutu Teddies also participates in community and charity events, and hosts a fun-filled summer Teddy Bears Picnic.
Classes at Tutu Teddies are open, which means that parents and carers are encouraged to watch, support, and join in. It's not necessary to have any dance experience; all that's required is a readiness to have a fabulous time with your little ballerina. Classes are approximately 30–45 minutes long and cost 3. 00-4.
50 per session, depending on the age group.
Tutu Teddies offers classes for different age groups. The Teeny Teddies class is designed for babies aged 6–18 months, and actively involves parents or other special grown-ups. Babies in this class learn through watching, listening, playing, and moving, and parents can join in by sharing dance, music, and rhythms using various props and instruments.
The Tiny Teddies class is for children aged 18 months to 2 years. In this class, children are on the move, jumping, wiggling, singing, and laughing. While the emphasis is on having fun, there is also a lot of learning happening. Songs, stories, and role-play help develop language and number skills.
