Located in Carrum Downs, Upstage Dance and Cheer is a thriving dance school, children's club, dance club, and education centre that offers a wide range of programmes for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Founded in 1991 by Karen Clarke, Upstage Dance and Cheer has been a staple in the community for over three decades. In 2011, Karen's daughter, Teneille Clarke, took over the school after dancing with Upstage for 18 years, expanding it into the comprehensive institution it is today.
At Upstage Dance and Cheer, they pride themselves on offering the fastest growing sport in Australia, All-star Cheer, along with a variety of other dance styles, including cheerleading, tumbling, and acrobatics. They also offer Kindergym and Fitness classes, ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy. The dedicated and experienced team of coaches delivers an impressive 92 dance and cheer classes every week, providing students with a wealth of knowledge and experiences to enhance their skills.
The Upstage coaches are not only skilled in their craft but are also approachable, dedicated, and inspiring, creating a supportive and nurturing environment for all students. All staff members hold valid “Working with Children's” checks, ensuring the safety and well-being of the students, and a qualified first-aider is always present during class times.
Conveniently located at 490 Frankston-Dandenong Road in Carrum Downs, Victoria, Upstage Dance and Cheer welcomes individuals of all ages and skill levels to join their vibrant and inclusive community. With state-of-the-art facilities, including a 10-metre tumble trak, a 9-run sprung floor, barres, mirrors, and various tumbling equipment, students have access to everything they need to excel in their chosen discipline.
In addition to their regular classes, Upstage Dance and Cheer also offer competitive cheerleading teams for individuals aged 3 and above. The teams are divided into different levels based on age and ability, ensuring that every student is placed in a cheer or dance team that suits them best. The competitive cheerleading teams train from 1 to 4 hours per week, focusing on developing jump sequences, tumbling passes, stunts, tosses, pyramids, and motions. As the year progresses, the coaches work on increasing the difficulty and complexity of each element to challenge and engage the athletes.
While commitment is required from the students, the rewards are immeasurable. Students experience physical and emotional growth, form close friendships, and develop a strong sense of teamwork and dedication.
