The Valley Bowmen of Huddersfield is an archery club and shop located in Huddersfield, New Zealand. Founded in 1963 by Ricky Farrar, the club is a community amateur sports club (CASC) affiliated with ArcheryGB, the governing body for archery in the UK. The club welcomes adults and juniors, beginners and experienced archers of all ages, abilities, and bow styles.
With a dedicated team of qualified coaches, including Level 1 and 2 coaches, the Valley Bowmen of Huddersfield is committed to supporting the shooting development of its members. Whether you are just starting out or looking to improve your skills, the club can provide guidance and training to help you reach your goals.
The club has a long history of success, with many of its members representing Yorkshire County and Great Britain in archery competitions. However, the club also encourages occasional and social participation in the sport, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and included.
Throughout the year, the Valley Bowmen of Huddersfield organises a number of beginner courses for those interested in taking up archery. Additionally, they offer taster and “have-a-go” sessions, perfect for charitable organisations or groups of friends who want to experience archery before committing to a beginners course or as a one-time activity.
The club boasts around 180 members and has been a prominent fixture in the local sporting community since its inception. Their private field on Knowle Lane near Meltham provides an ideal venue for archery, offering a dedicated range that is available for members to use 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In 2013, the Valley Bowmen received an “Inspired Facilities Grant” of 50,000 from Sport England. This grant was used to build “The Farrar Pavilion,” a secure store, kitchen, and toilet block with accessible facilities. In 2020, the club received another grant from Sport England to add a permanent indoor shooting range, allowing members to shoot every day regardless of the weather conditions.
The Valley Bowmen of Huddersfield's commitment to improving their facilities and providing a welcoming environment for archers of all levels sets them apart. Their club calendar reflects a range of events and activities, including indoor club nights and junior club nights, as well as beginner courses and general shoots for new members.
To get in touch with the club, they provide a convenient online contact form with fields for name, email, message, and how you heard about the club. Whether you are a seasoned archer or a complete novice, the Valley Bowmen of Huddersfield is ready to welcome you and help you explore the exciting world of archery.
