Vijna Yoga Australia is a vibrant and welcoming yoga studio located in Brunswick, Victoria. Guided by the principles of WISE BODY, WIDE HEART, and STEADY MIND, the studio offers a holistic approach to yoga that incorporates sitting meditation practise, pranayama breathing practises, asana postures, and study/inquiry.
The posture practise at Vijna Yoga Australia draws inspiration from the traditional roots of the Vijna tradition. It combines the precision and attention to detail found in Iyengar yoga with a more flowing rhythm influenced by Ashtanga. The studio aims to refine the body's intelligence through its practise, which is supported by the stillness cultivated through sitting meditation and the clarity and strength that come with pranayama breathing.
Testimonials from students reflect the transformative power of Vijna yoga. Chris, a student from Melbourne, praises how Vijna yoga has provided a solid foundation for taking yoga practise beyond just attending weekly classes. The integration of various aspects of practise, including sitting meditation, breathing, postures, and study, offers a rigorous and balanced yet caring programme that can be applied to everyday life.
Vijna Yoga Australia was founded in 2009 by Antonia Pont, who has been practising yoga for nearly three decades and studying zen since 1996. Antonia's extensive training and practise with teachers in Australia, India, and Europe have shaped her approach to yoga. She discovered Vijna Yoga while completing her first teacher training with Paul Wooden in Melbourne and went on to train with the founder of Vijna Yoga, Orit Sen-Gupta, in Germany. In 2011, she received certification as a Vijna teacher and continues to study with Orit each year.
Antonia, who holds a PhD in writing and is an Associate Professor at Deakin University, brings a unique perspective to her teaching. Her precise, steady, and sometimes irreverent approach to yoga encompasses the integration of postures, breath, and meditation. She encourages students to trust the transformative journey that practise can bring and apply the wisdom gained on the mat to their everyday lives. Antonia is a registered Senior Teacher with Yoga Australia and a certified Vijna Teacher.
