And passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle through walking. About the Village People Walking Group: The Village People Walking Group is a sports club located in the Ballina Shire Council area of Australia. Our focus is on promoting physical activity and supporting community members in achieving a healthier heart through regular walking. Our club is proudly supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia, a renowned organisation dedicated to preventing heart disease and improving heart health in Australia.
The Village People Walking Group aims to build connexions within the community and encourage individuals to walk towards a healthier heart together. We believe that walking is the wonder drug for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Research has shown that walking for an average of 30 minutes a day can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. In addition, regular walking can help manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.
It can also reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancers, maintain bone density, and improve balance and coordination, therefore reducing the risk of falls and other injuries.
We offer various walking groups within the Ballina Shire Council area, providing individuals with the opportunity to join a group that suits their location and preferences. With over 600 walking groups nationwide, our programme is well-established and has a proven track record of supporting individuals in achieving their health goals.
Joining our walking community is easy. Interested individuals can search for a walking group within a 10 km, 20 km, 25 km, 50 km, or 100 km radius of their location. They can then register for their chosen group and contact the assigned Walk Organiser to obtain further information and start walking.
We also encourage healthcare professionals to refer their patients to our structured and supportive walking programme as a complement to their care. Our motivational programme has been developed to help individuals meet the national physical activity guidelines, whether they prefer to walk alone or in a group.
One of our dedicated members, Maria, shares her inspiring story of how walking helped her overcome health issues. After years of struggling with weight, diabetes, and blood pressure problems, Maria started by walking 5,000 steps a day. Over time, she gradually increased her step count to 15,000 per day and successfully managed to reverse her diabetes and resolve her blood pressure issues. Maria's experience exemplifies the positive impact that walking can have on both physical and mental health.
By joining the Village People Walking Group, individuals become part of a supportive community that motivates and encourages each other to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. We offer a Facebook group where members can connect, share their experiences, and provide support to one another.
If individuals are interested in taking a leadership role and making a difference in their community, they can also consider becoming a Volunteer Walk Organiser for our programme. Walk Organisers play a vital role in planning and leading walking routes, organising meeting times, and welcoming new members. They also have the opportunity to be recognised for their efforts through our Walker Recognition Scheme.
Overall, the Village People Walking Group is a welcoming and inclusive sports club that promotes the benefits of walking for a healthier heart. We believe in the power of community, and together, we strive to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of individuals in the Ballina Shire Council area.
