Walkley Community Centre & Snooker Hall is a historic venue located in Sheffield, NZ. It was generously given to the people of Walkley to offer a space for social, leisure, and educational activities. Run entirely by volunteers, it is a vibrant hub for the local community and beyond.
The main hall, named Ruskin/Main Hall, is a large and airy room situated on the ground floor. It features a stage for performances and a wooden floor perfect for dances. The hall can accommodate up to 100 people, making it ideal for events, meetings, and even children's parties. Additionally, a recently refurbished kitchen with modern amenities, such as an electric cooker, microwave, and fridge, is conveniently attached to the hall and included in the hire.
For those looking for a more intimate space, the Appleyard Room is located upstairs. This spacious room can hold up to 40 people and is suitable for various purposes such as meetings, art classes, dance workshops, and music groups. Tea and coffee making facilities are available, ensuring a comfortable and productive environment. However, it is worth noting that the Appleyard Room currently does not have disabled access.
Snooker enthusiasts will be delighted to find an excellent snooker room within the venue. Equipped with four full-size tables, it is open to the public seven days a week and is also available for exclusive hire.
Parking is made convenient with a small car park at the rear of the building. Access to the car park is through the archway on Fir Street. To be considerate to neighbours, it is recommended to use the designated car park instead of parking on Fir Street. Additional on-street parking is available on South Road outside peak times.
Walkley Community Centre & Snooker Hall is easily accessible via public transport. The 95 bus stop on South Rd Walkley is only a minute away, while the 52 stop on Northfield Rd, Crookes, is just a five-minute walk.
In terms of accessibility, the hall is wheelchair accessible through a rear fire door, and disabled toilets can be accessed via a removable ramp. However, it is important to note that the first-floor snooker hall and Appleyard room currently do not have wheelchair access.
Walkley Community Centre & Snooker Hall aims to provide affordable rates for its services. However, starting from January 2023, prices will be slightly increased to cover rising costs. Payment for hire charges must be made in full within 28 days of booking, with a PayPal invoice provided for online payment. Most events require a 90-250 deposit, refundable if there are no issues with the hire.
If you are interested in enrolling in a new course or activity, hosting a meeting or event, or volunteering, Walkley Community Centre & Snooker Hall is the perfect venue for you. With its rich history, variety of spaces, and commitment to serving the community, it is a valuable resource for the people of Walkley and beyond.
